| The First Minister for Finance |
His Excellency Lyonpo Chogyal. The appointment of the first Finance Minister was decided during the 28th session of the National Assembly on 20th May 1968.

| The Second Finance Minister |
His Excellency Lyonpo Dorji Tshering.He served as the Minister from 1988 to 1998. He also served as the Deputy Minister of Finance from 1983 to 1988.

| The Third Finance Minister |
The 76th session of the National Assembly witnessed one of the most historic developments in the Kingdom. In an unprecedented move, His Majesty the King devolved his executive powers to an elected Council of Ministers. The members of the National Assembly elected the Ministers by secret ballot. His Excellency Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba, one of the six elected ministers, took over as the Finance Minister in August 1998. Prior to the appointment to the post of the minister, he had served as the deputy minister of Finance for a period of about six months. He served as the Finance Minister from August 1998 to July 2003.

| The Fourth and Present Finance Minister: |
His Excellency Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu. The 81st session of the National Assembly witnessed the vote of confidence for the six Lhengye Zhungtshog Ministers and with the creation of new Ministries; four new Cabinet Ministers were also elected from seven candidates through the secret ballot. Hon’ble Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu, one of the four newly elected ministers, was awarded the Orange scarf by His Majesty the King on July 9, 2003 and appointed as the Finance Minister on the 1st of August 2003. Prior to the appointment to the post of the minister, His Excellency served at different capacities, among others, as the Finance Secretary and as the Auditor General.
